Simple Home Remedy Treatments for Oily Hair

Oily hair is one contributing factor that affects hair thinning and hair loss. Most people that suffer hair loss have gone through the state of dandruff problems prior to ending up in an advanced stage of hair thinning. Besides being a hereditary factor, oily hair can might as well be caused by other factors including dietary intake, stress or even misuse of hair grooming products such as shampoos and topical substances. Symptoms of oily hair can be seen as early in childhood for some people or coinciding with puberty. The biological changes in hormonal balance and subsequent fatty dietary intake can contribute in a big way.

Dandruff:

The onset of dandruff is caused by the over production of sebum on the scalp. Fungus usually eats off the sebum, which explains the often itchy sensation on the scalp. The fungi also eats off the sebum embedded on the scalp, thus creating a flaky residue of dead skin cells. The use of head wear such as hats, hoods, caps and other related items, can cause accelerated fungal accumulation as the heat generates the much desired condition in which fungus can thrive on your scalp. Embedded sebum that surrounds the hair follicles also get eaten by the fungi, weakening the hair roots which lead to hair loss and thinning.

Shampoos and Conditioners:

Most people that are predisposed to oily hair conditions are Asians, Latinos and Africans. Though some races also suffer these conditions, their conditions are mostly incremented from dietary and environmental causes such as weather and humidity. Modern day shampoos and conditioners are often the culprits in oily hair conditions. Related issues concerning shampoo formulations are one of the bearing factors of hair loss as key ingredients, mostly comprising of harsh chemical binders and extenders, can do more damage than good.

It is advised to use a clear shampoo that does not contain so much chemical compounds as possible that may contribute to oily hair. It is best to use a shampoo with a pH level higher than 6.7%. Ample care should be made when using conditioners as well as over using these products can thin out your hair. The only time that you should use conditioner on your hair is that when you feel that it is dried up. The proper way of using a conditioner is applying it to the hair strands only and avoiding as much as possible any unnecessary contact with the scalp itself. Hair conditioners were originally intended to moisturize the hair strands to rejuvenate it and give back it’s natural silky shine.

Conditioners should be thoroughly rinsed off, making it sure that you absolutely leave nothing on your hair. Some conditioners can cause weakening of the end strands of your hair, resulting to those unsightly split ends.

Organic Acid Rinse:

There are a few useful ordinary house hold items that you can use besides commercial shampoos and conditioners, that have the same, if not, even better results that can improve the condition of your oily scalp and hair. A simple combination of 2 table spoons of apple cider vinegar or one whole freshly squeezed lemon, mixed in 1 cup of water. This mixture is used after shampooing your hair and after rinsing it. Soak your hair with the mixture and let it steep for about a minute or two, after then, thoroughly rinse it off to completely remove all residual remains of your shampoo. Alcohol:

No, not the antiseptic kind that is used to treat and clean open wounds, but rather the “happy hour” kind. We are specifically talking about alcoholic beverages such as beer, gin, vodka, tequila and brandy. Why can’t we use medical alcohol you might ask? Well, alcohol of these kind are too strong for the scalp to handle even if you dilute them in water. Using such substances might dry up your scalp too much, since alcohol can easily rid your scalp of any oily residue. However, organic spirits, preferably tequila for this matter, can rid your scalp of just the right amount of unnecessary oily residue. Alcoholic beverages such as these are ideal for this purpose of use since they come from plants and fruits. A shot glass of tequila or vodka, mixed in 2 cups of water, applied on the hair right after rinsing of any remaining shampoo. After a minute of letting it on your hair, rinse thoroughly with luke warm water to leave a deep, shinny glow on your hair.
